INSTALLERS BEWARE
Warning. Rogue CW1308 cable is flooding the market. Make sure you are buying the right stuff by following this guide....
It has been brought to our attention that there are quantities of cable currently being supplied to the market purporting to be CW1308, however, it does not meet the cable’s published specification.
CW1308 cable uses twisted pairs of sheathed single copper conductors, each conductor having a maximum resistance of 97.8 Ohms per kilometre. The rogue cable uses a copper plated nickel/steel conductor with a resistance of around 400 Ohms per kilometre.
The increased resistance of the cable adversely affects the performance of video handsets and apartment stations, reducing operating distance between marshalling and terminal to 10-20 metres.
As the cable is nickel/steel based rather than copper based it is magnetic. If you find any of your cable to be magnetic it does not meet the CW1308 specification and must not be used to wire the above room terminals. Only cable that conforms to CW1308 is to be used.
The use of the rogue cable on other parts of the system may not be so noticeable, as power to the door boards and expansion units should be supplied via 1.5mm or 2.5mm singles or flex, and there are sufficient spare cores to be able to double up on the common lines.
